Thane district is a district in northern Maharashtra state in Western India. Around four years back, Thane district had the highest population as a district in India with more than 1 Crore residents. This is the third-most industrialized district in the state of Maharashtra.
The district was divided into two a year back after the formation of the new Palghar district, making the current population of Thane district a shade above 80 Lacs residents.
